Google to enter the eBook market

Anyone who’s paid attention to what Google have been up to for the past few years will know that they’ve been scanning and indexing over 12 million in-print and out-of-print books.

Unsurprisingly, news sources this morning are reporting that they’ve found a way of turning this stack of digital paper into a pile of money.

As of this year, you’ll be able to buy books direct from Google’s online e-book store – and you won’t need an expensive Kindle or iPad to read on. Google are promising that their ebooks will be compatible with pretty much anything that has a screen – mobile phones, desktops, tablets…

How this will affect the ebook stores (and dedicated readers) of Amazon and Apple remains to be seen, but the days of being limited to iBookstore when you’re looking for iPhone reading material could be coming to an end!
