Are you sick to the back teeth of Farmville? Does the thought of being tagged in yet another drunken photograph fill you with dread? If you’re vigorously nodding your head now you’re not alone, as millions of users have started to abandon Facebook.
Reports are showing that over 100,000 Facebook users in the UK and six million in the States logged off from Facebook for good. It doesn’t look like they’re being replaced particularly quickly either, with the social site’s rate of growth slowing for the second month running.
However, with half of the UK population on Facebook, and with a userbase of 150 million in the USA, we don’t think that Mark Zuckerberg’s going to be too worried about the site becoming a ghost town any time soon. Especially as Facebook has just been valued at $100 billion ahead of a rumoured flotation. That puts the site in the same league as Apple and Google.
So forgive us if we don’t claim that the social media sky is falling just yet…
