World Book Day – Using the Internet to Read for Free

v0 master World Book Day Using the Internet to Read for Free

March 3 marks World Book Day, a day dedicated tothe joy of reading. And to celebrate, The FirstFound blog is going to show you a few ways that you can read for free using the Internet.

Free Downloads

As much as we love real, paper books, more and more people are turning to e-readers and electronic books. But who wants to carry around an e-reader as well as a phone and mp3 player?

Luckily for those of us with small pockets (and small budgets), Amazon’s Kindle e-reader is available as a free app for iPhones, iPads and Android smartphones. And once you’ve downloaded the app, you’ll have access to dozens of free books such as Dostoyevski’s ‘Crime and Punishment‘ and Oscar Wilde’s ‘A Picture of Dorian Gray‘.

Project Gutenberg

If you’d rather read on your desktop or laptop than the tiny screen of your smartphone, there’s always the amazing Project Gutenberg. Featuring over 33,000 books who’ve copyrights have expired, PG books can be read on any computer and most e-readers.

Predictably, you’ll be unable to find recent publications, but you’re spoiled for choice when it comes to classical literature. And of course, you won’t need to pay a penny.

Blogs

The final, and perhaps most obvious way to do a bit of free reading online is to peruse a few blogs. The FirstFound Blog is obviously a good place to start, especially if you want to read about SEO or technology news.

But if you want to expand your blogging horizons, it’s always worth checking out a blog directory like Technorati.

So there you have it, three ways to read for free using the Internet on World Book Day. If you’ve got any recommended reading, drop us a line in the comments section.
